John 21:15–17 (NASB)
15 Now when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Tend My lambs.”
16 He said to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.
Emphasis mine.
In this exchange, Jesus was affirming Peter’s identity and inheritance with a Kingdom assignment.
🌿 Key Teaching Points
Your identity reveals your design.
Every gift, every passion, every experience has been woven into you by the Designer—Elohim, our Creator.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Your inheritance includes an assignment.
1 Peter 1:3–4 (NLT) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
Romans 8:16–17 (NLT) 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
Design + assignment is always bigger than you.
Peter’s boldness wasn’t for himself but for shepherding God’s people. In the same way, your design is meant to bless others and multiply Kingdom impact.
💭 Reflection
I am not sure if you are like me, but I have questioned my place and purpose. But the gifts, creativity, and passions God placed in us are not random — they are part of our identity and inheritance in Him. They are not for us to keep, but to pour out as our assignment.
✅ Call to Action
Ask yourself this week:
What does my design reveal about my identity in Christ?
What part of my inheritance am I called to walk in right now?
Take one step — use your gift, share your voice, or serve someone intentionally.
🙌 Affirmation
God is my Creator … and my identity is secure in Him.
He is my inheritance … and I am His.
I am not just created — I am designed for God’s divine assignment.
What God has called me to do will not fail.
🙏 Prayer
“Lord, thank You that in Christ we are Your children, and that makes our identity secure. Thank You for the inheritance we have — both Your promises and Your assignments. Help us to recognize the design You placed in us, to surrender it back to You, and to walk boldly in the calling You have placed in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
