ABBA Father — Knowing God Beyond the Name

Child… do you know who you are? Who you really are?

Many Know His Name — But Not His Nature

A lot of believers confidently say,
“I am a child of God.”

But very few relate to Him as Abba —
the Father who is present, intimate, consistent, and deeply involved.

And because of how life has shaped us, many relate to God through three distorted lenses:

1. The Illegitimate Child Mindset

An illegitimate child may know who their father is…
but they don’t know his character.
They don’t know his heart, his ways, or his nature.

Many believers live the same way:

  • Claiming God but not spending time with Him

  • Knowing His name but not knowing His voice

  • Hearing about Him second-hand

  • Never receiving instruction, wisdom, or inheritance

God is not distant — but our experience of Him often is.

2. The Divorced Child Mindset

Some believers approach God like weekend visitation:

  • I’ll see You on Sunday

  • I’ll pray when things are bad

  • I’ll show up for Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Easter
    (the classic CME Christian)

But it’s the daily instructions of the Father that shape identity and maturity.

Daily fellowship is what establishes the joy, peace, patience, and long-suffering needed to live in our inheritance.

3. The Abandoned Child Mindset

Others once walked closely with God, but now feel disconnected. They no longer hear His affirmations, receive His instruction, or experience His presence. Not because God left, but because they drifted.

He promised:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

THE TRUTH

Let this settle in your spirit:

  • God has no illegitimate children.

  • God is not a part-time Father—He is ever-present.

  • God has not abandoned His children.

God is ABBA Father.

And He has adopted us as full sons and daughters with full access and full inheritance.

SCRIPTURES TO ANCHOR THIS TRUTH

Ephesians 1:5 (NIV)
“He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

1 John 3:1–2 (NIV)
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!

Galatians 4:4–7 (NIV)
“…God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’”

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  • Which mindset have I been relating to God from?
    Illegitimate? Divorced? Abandoned?

  • Do I know God’s character—or just His name?

  • Have I allowed God daily access to my life?

Take a moment and let the Holy Spirit speak.

AFFIRMATION

I am a child of God.
I am fully loved.
I am fully adopted.

God is my Abba Father.
He is ever-present.
I have full access and full inheritance.

I am God’s beloved child,
and I receive Him as Abba—today and every day.”

PRAYER

Father, thank You for adopting us with joy and intention.
Break every orphan mindset.
Heal every place shaped by earthly father wounds.
Draw us into daily closeness with You.
Teach us Your heart and Your ways.
We receive You fully, completely, and confidently as Abba Father.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
