There are moments when we want to hear from God…
I sat down to prepare what I thought would be my next message—confident I already had the direction. But as I worked through it, something didn’t sit right. It sounded familiar… like someone else’s voice. And that pause—that discomfort—became the invitation.
God gently redirected me and said, “Talk about this process.”
The process of waiting.
The process of sitting still.
The process of learning to discern His voice from our own thoughts, emotions, and the noise around us.
So many of us want to hear from God, but we don’t often talk about that process. Before the voice comes the silence. Before clarity comes surrender. And before direction comes intimacy.
This episode is a continuation of our conversation about Abba Father—because children who know their Father learn to recognize His voice.
We reflect on the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19.
The lesson is simple, but not easy:
It’s possible to study Scripture and still miss God if we don’t know His heart. The Pharisees knew the Word, but they missed the Messiah. In the same way, we can anticipate Christ’s return and still struggle to recognize His voice if we haven’t learned to sit with Him.
Sometimes there is movement.
Sometimes there is silence.
But in both, God is present.
Reflection Questions:
Where do I struggle to sit still before God?
How often do my thoughts speak louder than His whisper?
Have I confused familiarity with intimacy?
Am I studying Scripture to know facts… or to know Him?
Affirmation:
I quiet my mind. I yield my thoughts. And I wait for the whisper of God.
Thank you for continuing this journey with me. If this message spoke to you, I invite you to subscribe, share it with someone who may need it, and take time this week to simply sit with God—without an agenda.
The conversation is worth it.
